How Collaboration Drives Better Wellness Outcomes at Givens Estates

When great care teams come together, meaningful outcomes follow.

That was on full display recently at Givens Estates, where the wellness team partnered with the Functional Pathways therapy team to host a community-wide fit testing event designed to support resident wellness, mobility, and long-term independence.

The event brought together clinical expertise, wellness programming, and a shared commitment to proactive care. By the end of the day, approximately 150 residents had participated, making it one of the most highly engaged wellness initiatives at the community this year.

More importantly, it created opportunities for residents to learn more about their physical abilities, identify areas for improvement, and take an active role in their own health journey.

A Collaborative Approach to Wellness

At Functional Pathways, we know the best outcomes happen when therapy does not operate in a silo.

By working closely with the wellness professionals at Givens Estates, our therapy team helped create an event that was both clinically meaningful and highly accessible for residents.

The event was thoughtfully organized to maximize efficiency and resident comfort, allowing six to eight participants to be assessed at a time. This streamlined approach minimized wait times while creating an encouraging, supportive environment where residents felt comfortable participating. That level of planning mattered.

For some residents, participating in a fit test meant stepping outside their comfort zone. Some arrived hesitant or unsure of what to expect. But with encouragement from both teams, many of those initial concerns quickly turned into confidence. And the feedback spoke for itself.

Turning Hesitation Into Confidence

One of the most rewarding outcomes from the event was hearing directly from residents who initially questioned whether they should participate.

With support from both teams, many of the hesitant participants not only completed the assessments but also left feeling empowered, encouraged, and proud of what they had accomplished. That is the true value of proactive wellness programming. It is not just about gathering data or completing screenings.

It is about helping older adults recognize their strengths, identify opportunities for improvement, and feel confident in their ability to stay active and independent.

Why Functional Fitness Matters in Senior Living

Functional fitness assessments play an important role in helping older adults maintain mobility, reduce fall risk, improve balance, and preserve independence.

These screenings can help identify:

• Balance challenges

• Strength deficits

• Mobility limitations

• Endurance concerns

• Opportunities for individualized wellness or therapy interventions

When therapy and wellness teams collaborate, those insights become actionable, helping residents receive support before small issues become larger barriers to independence.

Building Healthier Communities Together

Events like this reinforce what makes strong senior living partnerships so effective.

When wellness teams and therapy professionals align around shared goals, residents benefit from a seamless experience focused on prevention, performance, and quality of life.

We are proud of the collaboration between the Functional Pathways therapy team and the wellness team at Givens Estates, and we look forward to continuing to create programs that help older adults live stronger, healthier, and more confidently every day.
