Beginning October 1, 2018, CMS will implement changes to the assessment-based quality measures (Section GG).  This section of the MDS will continue be entered on the initial and final assessments.  The data will allow functional outcomes to be measured as a part of the national SNF quality performance methodology.  Mobility and self-care items will continue to include admission status, discharge goal and performance at end of the SNF stay.

New self-care measures include

  • Shower/bath self
  • Upper body dressing
  • Lower body dressing
  • Putting on/taking off footwear

New mobility measures include

  • Roll left and right
  • Car transfer
  • Walking 10 feet
  • Walking 10 feet on uneven surfaces
  • 1 step curb
  • 4 steps
  • 12 steps
  • Picking up object

In addition, two additional items include:

  • Prior functioning with everyday activities
  • Prior device use

As Functional Pathways continues to meet the changes to our regulatory requirements, our Optima software system is being enhancement to allow Section GG items to be added from our clinical documents.  Ongoing progress with these functional measures will be easily monitored through the RightTrack integration into our clinical documentation.

Our new partnership with MedBridge will allow our occupational and physical therapists to obtain Section GG certification through online courses and competency testing.  Get ready … change in on the way!
